Phuket is near the bottom end of Thailand. A bus ride takes a long time but flying doesn't take that long. But will it be worth the expense to you for a few hours in Phuket?

Could you take 3 nights in a hotel in Bangkok - then go to Phuket - spend a week there and return to finish off another 3 nights in Bangkok? You can ask the hotel if they will split the free room voucher. Don't forget that even in Bangkok it is nice and warm, you could even get a little tan started if you can find some areas not in the shade.

Or, plan "B" if you are tapped for money and want a cheap beach you may head for Jomtien. You can take a bus to Jomtien/Pattaya area for under 120 baht. Hotels with air are cheaper than Phuket and Bangkok. Beach is not as good as Phuket of course but money wise it is a bargain!

Up to you.

No, it's too far away from Bangkok, over 900 km. It is about hour and half flight each way to fly or 12 hours bus ride. Not worth the money for just one day. My opinion

Day Trip ........er ....No

I mean even if you fly ,arrive early morning, leave late evening -by the time you have left the airport and got a taxi to the popular Southern part of the island, got your bearings, got settled somewhere ,it`ll be time to head back again .You need more than a day for sure.

If you must go to Phuket then you must spend at least 2 nights there - get flight with air asia.com - cheapest then get taxi to Patong - should cost you no more than 800 Baht each way. A good site to use for hotels is agoda.com. If I was you I would go to Ao Nang, Krabi insteead for 2 nights, 1/2 hr from Krabi airport - stunning scenery, you can do a tour of the islands including Ph Phi - vistit krabi.com and tripadvisor for what to see and do. Again you can use airasia.com for cheap flight to Krabi and agoda for Hotels.

Definitely not suitable for a day trip. If you want to go to the beach, Hua Hin, Cha Am & Pattaya are all not a huge distance from Bangkok (about a two-hour taxi ride).

Phuket is really too far from Bangkok for a day trip. It's an one and a half hour flight each way, but what really gets you is the ride to and from the airport on both sides.

From Sukhumvit it will take you 30 minutes to reach the airport each way, without traffic. Then in Phuket, you're looking at another 45 minutes each way from the airport to any of the popular beaches.

There are plenty of great day trips around Bangkok, though. It's not quite the same as Phuket, but Pattaya can be fun. Then there is also Kanchanaburi, which is right next to the famous bridge over the river Kwai.

Even at that it is a long way for just a day.

Was there something in Phuket you wanted to do in particular?
